Message from Michael Meyers, President, Board of Trustees

Dear Friends,

On behalf of the Board of Trustees of the San Francisco Maritime National Park Association, and our partner, the San Francisco Maritime National Historical Park, I am delighted to invite you to visit the Festival of Sail San Francisco this July 23 through 27th. For many years, the Association and its Park partner have worked together to preserve and bring to life the legacy of San Francisco's waterfront in the history and culture of our state and nation. Thanks to the hard work of our partners and corporate sponsors, on July 23rd of this year you will be able to experience our most ambitious attempt yet to realize this goal.
For five days the city's waterfront will be transported back to a time when sailing ships ruled the waves, and San Francisco's links to the outside world depended on the grace and power of the Cape Horn clipper ships. Traditionally rigged sailing vessels, or "Tall Ships", from around the globe will converge on the Golden Gate and parade majestically to their berths, launching a spectacular five day celebration of the City's seafaring past.

The ships will moor at three locations along the waterfront and each location will have its own "village" celebrating the key themes of the Festival: the environment, education and the many nations and cultures represented in the Bay Area.

We invite you to join us with your family and friends to experience a festival celebrating our shared maritime heritage and the Bay Area traditions of tolerance, innovation and entrepreneurship which it fostered. Come visit the Festival to experience the romance of the sea, and lure of adventure that these beautiful ships have come to symbolize.

Michael L. Meyers,
President,
Board of Trustees
